Democrats noticed something strange when they turned on CNN
The Democrat Party expects the media to help lead the resistance to Donald Trump.
But what just happened hit the Left like a gut punch.
And Democrats noticed something strange when they turned on CNN.
Left-wing activist and censorship supporter Oliver Darcy reported in his Status email newsletter that new CNN CEO Mark Thomspon told on-air talent not to engage in “pre-judging” the incoming Trump administration during the network’s coverage of inauguration day.
Darcy also reported that Thomspon “made it clear that he did not want the coverage to relitigate the past” and attack Trump over the 2020 election aftermath.
In an appearance WNYC’s On the Media podcast Darcy – who used to work at CNN as their media reporter – continued to hammer CNN for not reverting to CNN’s previous anti-Trump editorial bias.
What seemed to enrage Darcy the most was the fact that no one on CNN attacked Donald Trump for being a convicted felon or bringing up the two previous impeachments Democrats brought against him.
“One of the noticeable things, for instance, during inauguration coverage was that none of the CNN anchors pointed out that Donald Trump is the first convicted felon to take that office. They didn’t point out that he was twice impeached,” Darcy began.
Democrats and the media relentlessly attacked Donald Trump over the impeachments and the Manhattan show trial conviction during the 2024 campaign.
Americans yawned at the attacks and re-elected Donald Trump in landslide fashion.
Darcy also complained that Trump supporters attended Donald Trump’s inauguration.
According to Darcy, anyone who voted for Donald Trump was an “extremist” or a “conspiracy theorist.”
“So you had a lot of right-wing extremists and a lot of right-wing conspiracy theorists stuffed in the Rotunda. People like Tucker Carlson, an extremist, Marjorie Taylor Greene, an extremist, Robert F Kennedy Jr, a conspiracy theorist, on and on it went,” Darcy added.
“In the previous iteration of CNN, you would have seen that called out pretty forcefully. That acting rotunda for years after January 6th, you have a lot of people who pushed the big lie, who even in Tucker Carlson’s case, suggested that that insurrection was a false flag, that you have them now gathered at the citadel of American democracy, welcoming Donald Trump back to power. And Jake Tapper was pretty tame,” Darcy continued.
Darcy lamented that the CNN he worked for would have filled the inauguration day coverage with Trump haters that would bombard viewers with smears and lies about how Trump was an insurrectionist, a fascist, and a criminal.
“And watching this second term begin. Those anchors were still physically present on my screen, like Jake Tapper was still there, but it felt like a very different Jake Tapper. And that’s not an accident. That’s the direction that a new network chief, Mark Thompson, wants to take the network,” Darcy remarked.
Darcy compared Thompson to disgraced former CNN President Jeff Zucker who reoriented the network into a Democrat Party rapid response operation.
“Jeff Zucker, who was the network chief when AT&T owned the company, he really encouraged anchors to be relentless, to be vocal about the lies that Donald Trump was pushing. Mark Thompson had his anchors gathered for a Sunday afternoon meeting, and he made it very clear that he did not want to focus on those things,” Darcy stated.
Thompson likely looked at CNN’s ratings and realized reflexive Trump hating was a dead end.
In the month after the 2024 election, CNN’s ratings sank 33 percent.
Oliver Darcy’s preferred version of CNN – hosts, guests and reporters spending 24 hours a day whipping hysteria over Donald Trump – was a ratings loser.
