Denver Mayor threatens to use to police to stop mass deportations
President-elect Donald Trump is weeks away from being inaugurated and a battle is already brewing over his plan for mass deportations of illegal aliens.
Democrat Governors and Mayors are vowing to fight any effort by the incoming administration to deport illegal aliens from their jurisdictions.
A fight with the Trump administration over deportations is an easy way for ambitious Democrats to build their political profiles ahead of the 2026 and 2028 Elections.
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston told local TV stations that he was prepared for a “Tiananmen Square moment” resisting efforts to deport illegal aliens.
“More than us having DPD [Denver Police Department] stationed at the county line to keep them out, you would have 50,000 Denverites there,” Johnston said. “It’s like the Tiananmen Square moment with the rose and the gun, right? You’d have every one of those Highland moms who came out for the migrants. And you do not want to mess with them.”
Johnston also claimed that he was willing to go to jail to stop the Trump administration from deporting illegal aliens.
Trump selected former acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director Tom Homan to serve as his “Border Czar” and lead his mass deportation effort.
Homan isn’t backing down from his plan to deport illegal aliens in the face of Democrat resistance.
“Look, me and the Denver mayor, we agree on one thing,” Homan told Fox News host Sean Hannity. “He’s willing to go to jail, I’m willing to put him in jail.”
The incoming “Border Czar” pointed out that it’s a federal felony to harbor or conceal illegal aliens.

Johnston told a local Denver reporter that he “regretted” making promises to have the police force standing at the county line to keep ICE agents deporting illegal aliens out.
“I certainly did not mean to stoke fear on either side of the line,” Johnston said.
“It sounds like you’re walking back the comments from a couple days ago saying that you would be willing to send Denver police officers. Do you regret making those comments and now getting questions like this?” the Denver reporter asked.
“Yeah,” Johnston replied.
The Denver Mayor claimed he wanted the public to understand the scale of the mass deportation that the Trump administration is planning on launching next year.
Johnston added that he was sorry for stoking fear among the Denver Police that they could be headed to a showdown with federal law enforcement next year.
It was easy for him to make big threats about resisting the Trump administration when he thought they might be bluffing about their plans to deport illegal aliens.
Mike Johnston folded like a cheap suit when he realized that he was in danger of being arrested for violating federal law.
