No politician has a stronger bond with their voters than Donald Trump.

He showed why once again.

And Donald Trump asked his supporters to do one thing that brought them to tears.

Trump returns to the site of the assassination attempt

Former President Donald Trump returned to the rally site in Butler, Pennsylvania where an assassin nearly killed him with a headshot.

But someone did lose their life that day.

50-year-old firefighter Corey Comperatore died after using his body as a shield to protect his wife and daughters from the gunman’s bullets.

Trump acknowledged Comperatore’s heroic sacrifice and called on the crowd to show their appreciation to his family.

Trump also asked the crowd to observe a moment of silence at 6:11 pm, the moment Comperatore died.

“Of course, there’s one more hero who could not make it back here tonight because he is no longer with us,” Trump told the crowd “We all miss him. He’s become somewhat of a folk hero!”

The crowd began to applaud.

“Thank you very much. Thank you very much thank you very much. Great family. A great, incredible family. And he loved you a lot and you know his wife said something very beautiful,” Trump added.

Trump explained that his supporters raised over one million dollars for Comperatore’s family and while his wife was grateful, she hated the circumstances under which Trump supporters demonstrated their generosity.

“The public a lot of people, all of us, a lot of people have been very generous [to her]. And he said I’d rather have my husband. That’s a good thing to say. That’s a good thing to say. I’d rather have my husband. Incredible husband and father, a devout Christian, a veteran, and a proud former fire chief, very respected within the town,” Trump continued.

Trump praises Comperatore as a hero

Comperatore exhibited the bravery that many hope they are capable of.

Trump recounted how Comperatore’s instinct as a man and firefighter kicked in to help others and save lives when he selflessly threw his body into the line of fire to save his family’s lives.

“Everybody knew him. Few men volunteered to run into fires, but Corey was one of those who did. He ran into fires. I spoke to people that were with this guy, [he] would do anything, he was brave, right?” Trump asked the crowd.

“Brave guy and he was also a protector who put his life on the line for others. And he loved doing it. And when the sound of gunshots pierced the air on that July evening, Corey leapt into the fire one more time and his last seconds on this Earth. He threw himself on the top of his wife and daughters,” Trump declared.

“He didn’t want them hurt. He threw himself. He knew what was happening. He didn’t want them hurt and he was hit hard. He was hit hard and he gave his life to shield theirs,” Trump concluded.
