New York is about to get even more expensive thanks to this Big Government program
Not many Americans can afford to live in the Big Apple.
If the sky-high rent for tiny apartments doesn’t break your budget, the many taxes will.
And New York is about to get even more expensive thanks to this Big Government program.
Kathy Hochul signs new law that will cost New Yorkers big
Green energy scams drive up the cost of energy and cost Americans good paying jobs.
Democrat politicians villainize oil companies that provide much needed energy needed to keep the lights on and the heaters running.
They seek to penalize the fossil fuel industry while giving government kickbacks to their buddies in the “green” energy business.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul just signed the so-called “Climate Change Superfund Act.”
The legislation seeks to fine energy companies up to $75 billion for pollution dating from 2000 to 2018.
The funds the state plans to grab as a result of the legislation will purportedly be used to fund projects rebuilding infrastructure damaged by weather over the years.
The penalties will affect a total of 38 energy firms, including Exxon, Chevron, Shell, and BP.
Extremist environmentalist groups have praised the legislation.
“By signing the Climate Change Superfund Act, Gov. Hochul is addressing the financial burden placed on New Yorkers by the fossil fuel companies,” said Richard Schrader, Director of New York Government Affairs at Natural Resources Defense Council. “It’s a key example of what putting fiscal fairness and environmental justice front and center looks like.”
However, despite environmental groups rejoicing about sticking it to the “big, bad oil companies,” many believe the cost will be swallowed by New York’s energy consumers.
“The result will be higher energy costs for households, families, and small businesses in one of the most expensive states to live in the country,” Trisha Curtis, economist at the American Energy Institute, told Fox News Digital. “With no plan to address the broader economic consequences, this law will drive people, businesses, and state revenue out of New York and into other more competitive states.”
The CEO of The American Energy Institute, Jason Isaac, said the move by Hochul and New York Democrats is counterproductive.
“It’s heartwarming to see Governor Hochul finally acknowledge what energy advocates have long understood: the best way for humanity to thrive is through adaptation to a changing climate. By signing this bill, she’s effectively endorsed that philosophy—though in the most counterproductive way possible,” he told Fox News Digital.
Fox News contributor David Webb believes the legislation will make life more expensive for New Yorkers.
“If you’re an energy company, you’re already guilty. They’re just going to decide over the next decade how they’re going to charge you for your guilt,” Webb told Fox & Friends First.
Consumers’ Research Executive Director Will Hild also believes the bill will drive up energy costs.
“Whether it’s charging citizens to drive into their own city, banning new gas appliances, or foisting a massive new tax bound to significantly raise the price of energy, hardly a day goes by that New York government doesn’t implement ESG policies that make their citizens’ lives quantifiably worse,” he said.
New York is already way too expensive to live in.
Bills that further drive up energy costs are the last thing New Yorkers need.
