John Fetterman’s election confession had Democrats in damage control mode
Democrats are looking for explanations as to how Kamala Harris lost an election everyone on the left thought they had in the bag.
It turns out Democrats don’t have to go far.
And John Fetterman’s election confession had Democrats in damage control mode.
John Fetterman says it was a mistake not to go on Joe Rogan’s show
In each election a new form of communication emerges and whichever candidate masters that platform wins the election.
In 2008 and 2012 Barack Obama rode his dominance of YouTube, Facebook and email fundraising to victory.
Donald Trump owned Twitter in 2016 and won the White House.
2024 saw podcasts dominate the election.
Donald Trump and his team saw that they could reach millions of voters by meeting them where they were as podcast hosts like Joe Rogan are now trusted sources of news.
That’s because the biggest podcasts in America are hosted by figures -who while they may not be conservatives – are anti-establishment, anti-woke and all opposed COVID mandates and lockdowns during the pandemic.
Kamala Harris refused to go on Joe Rogan’s show because her handlers didn’t think she could hold up for a three-hour long interview.
John Fetterman appeared on Rogan’s show in the week before the election.
Semafor’s Dave Weigel asked Fetterman if Democrats were leaving votes on the table by not appearing on shows like Rogan’s.
Fetterman said he was always open to conversations with people he disagrees with – Fetterman is a hardcore supporter of the transgender agenda and Rogan is 100 percent opposed.
“I’ve always been a fan of the Rogan podcast, and of him personally. That doesn’t mean that I have to agree with him on everything, but it’s all about having conversations and having an exchange of ideas,” Fetterman began.
Fetterman said it was marketing 101 that you can’t grow your brand unless you expose your ideas to new audiences.
“I think he really pioneered that whole medium, and I think it’s important for all of us, especially for elected leaders, to challenge your own views and to expose yourself [to others]. He has created an incredibly impressive platform, and it would be pretty dumb to ignore that or to pretend it doesn’t exist,” Fetterman added.
Fetterman also said that for as much as Democrats mocked J.D. Vance for the “childless cat lady” comment, Democrats had equal problems with young men which was caused by years of liberals telling males their masculinity was “toxic” and they perpetuated the patriarchy to oppress women.
“So, I was happy to show up there. And it also addresses an important kind of an issue, in my opinion, with the Democratic Party. We have a challenge. We have our own kind of “childless cat ladies” situation, ‘Bros,’” Fetterman continued.
“People refer to these young guys as bros, and clearly that’s not a positive term. They’re described as dopes, or gullible, or brutes. People were really shocked when the whole childless cat ladies thing dropped, and it is dumb. That violates the basic, basic rule of politics. Don’t subtract, do addition. I think that was part of the new coalition that really delivered a pretty crushing victory for Trump,” Fetterman concluded.
Democrats got the worst of all worlds in this election.
Women under 30 – who Democrats counted on to turnout in big numbers over support for abortion – shifted 11 points to the right.
Young men moved more than 20 points to Trump and Trump won them outright.
It’s due in large part to Trump owning the podcast media landscape that these voters go to for news and information.
