Gavin Newsom was scared as hell after a journalist handed him this awful news
Gavin Newsom is already eyeing a Presidential run in 2028.
He’s trying to position himself as one of the early frontrunners.
And Gavin Newsom was scared as hell after a journalist handed him this awful news.
Gavin Newsom’s political future isn’t as bright as he thinks
California Governor Gavin Newsom has been preparing to run for President for years.
He launched a shadow campaign for President in 2022 in anticipation of President Joe Biden eventually dropping out.
Vice President Kamala Harris got the nod over him, which left Newsom looking toward 2028.
The Democrat Presidential Primary field is wide open and it appears that Newsom could be an early frontrunner.
An Emerson College poll for the 2028 Democrat Primary had Newsom in second place behind Kamala.
Veteran political journalist Mark Halperin argued that the California Governor faces a difficult path to the White House during an appearance on Newsmax’s American Agenda.
“A lot of what Democrats want to see is someone who will be tough and take the fight directly to [President-elect] Donald Trump in a telegenic way … I think objectively he has some of those skills,” Halperin explained.
Newsom called a special session of the California General Assembly to Trump-proof his state in anticipation of battling the incoming administration.
Halperin wondered if the California Governor had the relentless drive needed to run for President.
“I will say, I continue to believe people overstate his willingness to make the personal sacrifices to run for President,” Halperin said. “And also running for president from California geographically in the space time continuum is not easy to do. And again, I think if you combine that with the personal challenges, I think people, again, are overstating the likelihood that he’ll be a major player in ’28.”
The potential downfall of the Newsom Presidential campaign
Halperin noted that Newsom’s wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, wasn’t excited about a Presidential campaign.
“He’s got young kids. He’s got a wife who, by all accounts, is not super enthusiastic about this,” Halperin revealed. “I think it’s an under-discussed reality that a lot of the governors, including Governor Newsom, who are talked about as potential ’28 candidates … they’re just more ambivalent.”
Newsom, he thought, lacked the tenacity required of a Presidential candidate.
“They don’t have the drive. Most people I know who run for President effectively wake up every morning and say, what are the 10 things I need to do today to increase my chances of winning? And if one of them is chew through handcuffs, they’ll do it. I just don’t get the sense that that’s where Gavin Newsom’s head is at,” Halperin added.
Halperin gave an example of someone who he thought was well-positioned for the 2028 Election.
He noted that Vice President-elect J.D. Vance had a big advantage over other 2028 contenders because of his willingness to engage the media.
“I think one of the smartest things JD Vance could do to consolidate his position … is to go on those shows regularly. He can do it. He can develop personal relationships with those people, and people in the media, contrary to popular perception, are human beings,” Halperin explained. “And if the vice president of the United States is stopping by your podcast every month and giving you time, you’re gonna be favorably disposed towards that person.”
Gavin Newsom’s dreams of becoming President could go up in smoke sooner than he realizes.
