Judge Juan Merchan rejects recusal for motion
For the third time, Democrat Judge and Joe Biden campaign donor Juan Merchan rejected a motion by former President Donald Trump’s lawyers to recuse himself from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s witch hunt.
Merchan is set to sentence Trump on September 18 where he faces up to four years in prison for the made-up crimes Bragg indicted him on.
Trump’s lawyers argued Merchan should recuse himself for a donation he made to Biden’s campaign back in 2020 as well as the fact that his daughter runs a Democrat-aligned political consulting firm that counted Vice President Kamala Harris among its clients.
Judge Merchan claimed “innuendo and mischaracterizations do not a conflict create.
“Recusal is therefore not necessary, much less required,” Merchan added.
This ignores the fact that judges and lawyers typically abide by a standard of appearance of impropriety when deciding to recuse.
Judge Merchan’s daughter’s political work became far more lucrative for her Democrat clients once her dad got the case as the idea of jailing Trump is catnip for Democrat donors.
Trump responds
Trump blasted Merchan’s ruling as election interference.
He also ripped him for keeping the gag order in place which prevents him from answering questions about the case or defending himself from Kamala’s political attacks.
“Judge Merchant [sic] just ruled that I, the Republican candidate for President, and leading in the Polls, am still under a Gag Order CONCERNING VERY IMPORTANT THINGS WHICH MUST BE BROUGHT TO LIGHT. I AM NOT ALLOWED TO ANSWER REPORTERS QUESTIONS,” Trump wrote.
“Can you believe this? The New York Courts refuse to act. This is happening right before the voting begins on September 6th. Suppression and manipulation of the vote. Voter interference. This is the real Fascist “stuff,” the old Soviet Union! So much to say, and I’m not allowed to say it. Must get U.S. Supreme Court involved. New York is trying to steal the Election!” Trump added.
Merchan is almost certain to hand down a prison sentence on September 18.
Even though the charges Bragg brought rarely end up in jail time if Merchan gives Trump anything less than prison it would affirm the former President’s argument that these were sham charges brought for political reasons so Democrats could call him a felon in campaign commercials.
This was a politically motivated trial from the start so Merchan will hand down a politically motivated sentence designed to offer maximum political benefit to Democrats.
And that means on September 18 – just as early voting starts in many states across the country – Judge Merchan will hand Kamala Harris a September surprise by sentencing Donald Trump to prison.
