But if the Left is looking for good news, they aren’t about to find any here.

Michigan Democrat Senator Gary Peters set up the marquee contest on the 2026 map when he announced he wouldn’t seek a third term.
That decision instantly raised the stakes of the Michigan Senate race as an early 2028 bell weather due to the Wolverine State’s status as one of the few swing states at the Presidential level.
Parties look for marquee candidates who can raise the boatloads of money necessary to win in races like this.
However, in this case, the Democrat Party may be in for a case of being careful what you wish for.
That’s because former failed Presidential candidate and notoriously incompetent Treasury Secretary Pete Buttigieg is strongly considering entering this race.
Buttigieg even met with Schumer about his interest in the race.
“Pete Buttigieg met with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer last week to discuss a possible Senate bid in Michigan, according to two people familiar with the meeting and granted anonymity to describe private conversations,” POLITICO reported.
Buttigieg would be a carpetbagger as he only recently moved to Michigan as he grew up in Indiana and lived there until coming to Washington to join the Biden administration.
“The former Transportation secretary is still undecided about a Senate run in his adopted home state, according to five people familiar with the situation. But the meeting with Schumer was a sign of how seriously he is considering it,” POLITICO also reported.
Democrats may rue the day Buttigieg entered the race.
A recent EPIC-MRA poll found Buttigieg trailing former Michigan Republican Congressman Mike Rogers by six points.

Buttigieg’s association with Biden and his lack of roots in Michigan could prove fatal.
If Buttigieg isn’t the nominee, Democrats could be stuck with woke Michigan State Senator Mallory McMorrow.
McMorrow became a hero on the left with a viral 2022 speech where she claimed she wasn’t a “groomer” even though she supported brainwashing children in school into transgenderism.
“So you dehumanize and marginalize ME. You say I’m one of THEM. You say she’s a groomer, she supports pedophilia, she wants children to believe they were responsible for slavery and to feel bad about themselves because they’re white,” McMorrow ranted.
McMorrow also defended indoctrinating kids into critical race theory.
“So who am I? I am a straight, white, Christian, married, suburban mom who knows that the very notion that learning about slavery or redlining or systemic racism means that children are being taught to feel bad or hate themselves because they are white is absolute nonsense,” McMorrow added.
Either way, Democrats are looking at a poor candidate that isn’t a good cultural fit for Michigan.
