Bill Maher embarrassed “Saturday Night Live” for burying this awful Democrat scandal
Saturday Night Live used to roast both political parties in its sketch comedy.
But the show has become another painfully unfunny outlet for Democrat talking points.
And Bill Maher embarrassed Saturday Night Live for burying this awful Democrat scandal.
Saturday Night Live ignores Doug Emhoff’s scandals
NBC’s Saturday Night Live was once known for its skits that mocked politicians of both parties.
The sketch comedy show has become another one-sided affair like the rest of late-night broadcast TV that barely lampooned Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden over the last four years.
Comedian Bill Maher ripped Saturday Night Live and the media for ignoring Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff’s scandals during an appearance on the Fly on the Wall with Dana Carvey and David Spade podcast.
Spade returned to Saturday Night Live, where he starred in the 1990s to portray Hunter Biden on the show opposite Carvey playing his classic Church Lady character on the show last December.
He wondered why no one had ever portrayed the President’s son on the sketch comedy show until then.
“[I] was always curious as to why they never had anyone play Hunter Biden. It was just sort of ripe for the pickings,” Spade said. “I thought of maybe a hot-tub talk show with guests and girls.”
Maher pointed out that the credible accusations against Emhoff that he slapped his ex-girlfriend in public and cheated on his first wife with the nanny were ignored by the public while the comedians discussed what the show missed the boat on.
“How about, why didn’t they make fun of Kamala’s husband when he got ‘me-too’d’?” Maher asked. “It is amazing the way this country is so partisan, including in the media and the entertainment parts of it, that when something happens for your team that’s bad, it’s like, you know, the angel of death just flying over the house on Passover. Like, ‘we don’t see a thing here.’ Because, you know, Doug Emhoff was credibly accused of things that others have been accused of.”
“Yeah, and that wasn’t plastered everywhere,” Spade added.
Saturday Night Live helped protect Kamala Harris’ husband
The media portrayed Emhoff as a loving and supporting husband during the Presidential campaign and glossed over the serious allegations.
Maher noted that the sketch comedy show used comedian Andy Samberg to portray him as a goofy, endearing dad.
“Doug Emhoff was credibly accused of things that other people have been accused of,” Maher said “It was as credible as many other accusations I’ve heard, but somehow it was just Andy Samberg [playing him] as funny, kind of dorky Doug.”
Carvey – who played Biden during the election on the show – admitted he was prepared to handle any backlash over portraying the President as senile.
“I had a comeback just in case, but they went for it, I guess because he wasn’t running anymore,” Carvey said. “But the rules all changed after Biden was no longer the nominee. They became a lot looser with it. So I caught a lucky wave, I think.”
Maher took a shot at the current Saturday Night Live cast over its treatment of Biden.
“Well, also, nobody else really got how to make him funny,” Maher stated. “So they had to go to the bullpen. They had to go to the old school.”
Saturday Night Live went from being an equal opportunity show for political comedy to one that carried water for the Democrat Party.
