Matthew McConaughey is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood.

Now he is in the headlines for a different reason.

And a video of Matthew McConaughey and his wife not wearing pants just broke the Internet.

McConaughey and his wife promote new tequila brand with a commercial where they don’t wear pants

Actor Matthew McConaughey and his wife Camila promoted their Pantalones brand tequila with a tongue-in-cheek – literally – commercial where the couple play the popular pickleball game while using their tequila to make a pickle margarita.

The commercial begins with McConaughey and Camila playing pickleball in normal attire.

But as the commercial goes on and the tequila flows, the pair are seen not wearing pants with their bottoms blurred out.

McConaughey and Camila released a statement accompanying the commercial explaining why they went in this direction.

The pair said tequila has now become a drink that’s a high-end luxury beverage and that elites like to collect it the way they store vintage wines in their cellar.

They wanted to bring back the spirit of tequila which was having a good time and losing your inhibitions in a good way.

“We’re precious about our tequila, not our pants,” the press release from McConaughey and Camila read. “With the explosion in popularity of tequila, there’s a level of snootiness that’s crept into the category. People now talk about tequila the way they talk about wine.”

“While we’re all for being passionate about tequila, we wanted to remind people that, above all, it’s meant to be fun. That’s where the name Pantalones came from, and that’s why you won’t see us wearing any,” the statement added.

Celebrity-endorsed tequila is a popular branding exercise

In 2019, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson announced his celebrity brand of tequila, which he named “Teremana.”

Johnson wrote in an Instagram post announcing the tequila that “TERA means of the earth and MANA is our powerful Polynesian spirit that guides us. Spirit of the earth.”

“After years of hard work, this blessing is truly a dream come true—but it’s just the beginning and there’s much work to be done,” Johnson continued.

“I’m committed with my team to bring you the best tequila, because quality and legacy are what matter most,” Johnson concluded.

Teremana became a huge success.

By June 2023, Teremana sold one million cases, a feat only ten other brands achieved.

2023 was also coincidentally the year McConaughey and his wife launched Pantalones.

The most valuable asset celebrities have is their name.

And with the ability to license that name, stars can create massive income streams without having to spend hours on set or in a recording studio.

“The Rock” created the template with his Teremana tequila brand.

And Matthew McConaughey wanted to try his hand at the tequila branding game, but have a little fun while he was at it.
