Religion – especially Christianity – is something usually mocked in the entertainment industry.

One actress would like to change that.

And a Hollywood star made a stunning confession about her faith.

Wonder Years star details her journey to Christ

Actress Danica McKellar played female lead Winnie Cooper opposite Fred Savage on ABC’s hit show The Wonder Years which ran from 1988 to 1993 and detailed the experiences of Savage’s character Kevin Arnold growing up in the late 1960s and early 70s.

In an interview with Fox News, McKellar explained that this Easter holds a special place in her heart because it marks two years since she accepted the Holy Spirit and became a believing Christian.

McKellar said her journey began when Candace Cameron Bure – star of ABC’s Full House and the sister of actor Kirk Cameron – took her to Church on Palm Sunday to watch the passion play.

“Easter week for me, this year marks two years of becoming a believer,” McKellar stated. “That’s when Candace Cameron Bure brought me into her church on Palm Sunday, and we saw the passion play there at Shepherd Church.”

McKellar said watching the passion of Christ was a life-changing moment where she accepted Jesus into her heart.

“It changed my life,” McKellar continued. “I don’t know what happened. Some people say the Holy Spirit came to me. All I know is that I knew I became a believer, and it was the most wonderful, transformative moment.

“I was flooded with this knowingness, and I have such peace from that still after two years, and I’m so grateful for it,” McKellar added.

McKellar explains her change

McKellar told Fox News that she previously viewed Easter as a secular holiday where she would celebrate with an Easter basket and take part in family traditions like painting eggs and participating in Easter Egg hunts.

“It was the Easter bunny and egg hunts and coloring eggs,” she explained. “I used to believe in the Easter bunny, so it was a lot of fun. It was a big family celebration, like a lot of holidays. And I’m really grateful to have a family who always made that effort for everyone to come together.”

McKellar said her father found Jesus 25 years ago and her reaction to her father becoming a Christian many years ago helps her understand that not everyone appreciates her connection to Christ.

“‘You seem so happy,'” Danica recounted of the conversation she had with her father. “‘I’m so happy for you,’ and I’ve gotten that reaction from some people in my life as well. They’re really happy for me, but they’re not connecting with it, and that’s how I was for so many years. So, I never blame anyone for that.”

Other famous Christian actors

Kirk Cameron and his sister Cameron were some of the first well-known Christian actors.

But in recent years Hollywood megastars like Mark Wahlberg and Chris Pratt – star of the Jurassic Park and Guardians of the Galaxy franchises – are both open about their Christian faith.

Their stardom – and the fact that being proud Christians hasn’t affected their ability to get work – should open the door for others in Hollywood to embrace a belief in Christ.
