The media can’t defend Kamala Harris’ Fox News interview
One way it was easy to see that Vice President Kamala Harris’ interview with Fox News went poorly was to watch the coverage on networks friendly to her.
Not even CNN could defend her shaky performance.
Pollster Frank Luntz told CNN host Brianna Keilar that the interview was a missed opportunity for Kamala because she didn’t fill in the blanks for Americans on what she would actually do as President.
She spent the interview attacking former President Donald Trump which led to her spouting off a series of consulted crafted zingers.
Luntz said clever one-liners aren’t what the American people are looking for.
Undecided voters wanted to see that Kamala had concrete plans to end the immigration and inflation crises that her disastrous policy choices caused.
“To me, the issue is did she answer the questions that people care about most, on immigration and on prices, on affordability? And I don’t think that her answers were of the scope that people were looking for,” Luntz stated.
Luntz maintained that the American people are willing to forgive a politician who admits error and promises to change course.
Immigration is an area, Luntz argued, that Kamala could break from President Joe Biden by renouncing open borders and hoping the American people couldn’t tell she wasn’t being serious.
“Specifically, what would you do at the border? Do you take responsibility for what happened? And most importantly, what are you going to do in the future?” Luntz stated.
A normal interview by Republican standards
Democrats and their allies in the media were furious because Fox News Bret Baier interjected fact checks when Kamala spoke and he tried not to let her filibuster since he was on a hard out after 30 minutes.
That’s a normal Sunday show interview for Republicans who routinely face hostile questions from left-wing hosts.
Luntz said Baier just did his job.
“Now, it was contentious, and Bret jumped on her several times for not being clear and concise,” Luntz explained.
But Luntz argued that where Kamala really fell short was in her immigration answers.
Her failure to give a clear answer to Baier’s questions about why she and Biden rolled back 94 of Trump’s executive orders which allowed the border crisis to get out of control in the first place.
“She was clear about her views towards immigration in general and specifically the border, but in the end, you have to answer the question, ‘Why did it get this way?’ And I don’t feel like she gave that answer,” Luntz concluded.
