Bernie Sanders Backed a Denver Socialist and She Just Revealed Where Her Politics Come From

Melat Kiros told an interviewer that America made the September 11 attacks inevitable.

Denver Democrats dumped fifteen-term Congresswoman Diana DeGette and handed Kiros the keys to a safe seat.

Now Kiros has revealed exactly where her politics come from, and she announced it with pride.

Kiros Traces Her Politics to a Family Line of Socialists

Kiros sat down with Eboni Taylor of Higher Heights, a group that works to elect Black women.

She told Taylor she comes from a "long generation of proud, proud Black socialists and radicals and fighters."

Then she laid out what socialism means to her.

It starts with the roads, schools, and fire stations taxpayers already fund.

It ends with the government running your health care, your workplace, and your housing.

She vowed to fight for sweeping systemic change once she gets to Washington.

That's not a slip of the tongue.

That's a business plan for your paycheck.

Kiros made the same pitch on PBS's Firing Line with Margaret Hoover, where she declared there is nothing more American than socialism.

She told Hoover socialism is "the only one capable of delivering things like life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

Thomas Jefferson wrote those words to protect Americans from a government that took whatever it wanted.

When Hoover pressed her about communism, Kiros brushed it off as "just noise from the Republican Party."

The 29 Year Old Barista Who Toppled a Fifteen Term Congresswoman

Kiros is a 29-year-old Ph.D. student and barista who had never held public office.

Bernie Sanders, Justice Democrats, CAIR Action, and the Democratic Socialists of America all lined up behind her.

She took just over 50 percent of the vote against DeGette, who first won the seat in 1996.

DeGette saw it coming and couldn't stop it.

She limped out of the March party convention with 33 percent, just three points above the cutoff for a spot on the ballot.

The activists running Denver's Democrat machine had already chosen their candidate.

Her résumé before politics tells you plenty.

Her legal career ended in 2023, when Sidley Austin showed her the door over an open letter she wrote blasting big firms for taking a stand against campus antisemitism.

At a Denver event after the primary, she trashed America's role in the world as "exploitative and extractive."

She also wants to abolish ICE and push Medicare for All on every taxpayer in the country.

Add a moratorium on new data centers, right as Trump races to beat China on artificial intelligence.

Ethiopia Already Ran the Experiment Kiros Is Selling

Kiros was born in Ethiopia, and her family brought her to Colorado through the Diversity Visa Lottery when she was an infant.

Ethiopia didn't just talk about socialism.

It lived under it.

A Marxist military junta called the Derg seized power in 1974 and held it until 1991.

The Derg confiscated private land, launched the Red Terror against its critics, and presided over a famine in the 1980s that killed hundreds of thousands of people.

That's what "public goods" look like once the government owns the farms.

Kiros grew up in Denver, protected by the free-market country her family chose.

Now she is selling the same promise of government-run everything right here at home.

Denver Has Not Sent a Republican to Congress Since 1970

Kiros faces Republican Christy Peterson in November, but Colorado's 1st District hasn't elected a Republican since 1970.

Physician Shimon Blau jumped in as an unaffiliated candidate days after Kiros won the primary.

Registered Democrats outnumber Republicans there by more than four to one.

Kamala Harris carried the district by 56 points in 2024.

The math says the woman who called socialism the most American idea in the country is headed to Congress.

And she won't be lonely when she gets there.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez knocked off Joe Crowley in 2018 and the Democrat Party learned nothing.

Zohran Mamdani took New York City Hall in 2025.

Socialist insurgents have since ousted New York Democrats Dan Goldman and Adriano Espaillat.

DeGette is just the latest name on the list.

Bernie Sanders didn't endorse Kiros by accident.

He backed her because she's the real thing.

Every one of these races follows the same script.

The old Democrat establishment holds the seat for decades, takes the voters for granted, and wakes up to find a socialist holding the nomination.

The Democrat Party isn't losing these seats to Republicans.

It's surrendering them to the far left, one primary at a time.

Kiros told America exactly who she is and exactly where she learned it.

Every Democrat who welcomes her to Washington is signing up for the same plan.
