Jaguar Escorted Out the Designer Behind Its Woke Rebrand Then Announced Devastating News

Jaguar axed its iconic leaping cat logo for an ad that showed zero actual cars.

The design chief who killed that logo just got escorted out of his own building.

Now Jaguar just announced the news that makes his firing look like the easy part.

Design Chief Gerry McGovern Escorted Out After Rebrand Disaster

Gerry McGovern ran Jaguar design for more than two decades.

He signed off on the rebrand that killed the leaping cat.

New CEO PB Balaji walked in and walked McGovern right back out the door.

The ad that got him fired never showed a single vehicle.

Instead, viewers got androgynous models in bright-colored outfits striking poses against a stark, prismatic backdrop.

The slogans read "Create Exuberant," "Delete Ordinary," and "Copy Nothing."

Nobody at Jaguar bothered explaining what any of that meant.

The video racked up millions of views and a comment section that turned into a firing squad.

Jaguar's in-house designers had warned leadership two years earlier that the new logo clashed with everything the brand already stood for.

Managing director Rawdon Glover shrugged off the backlash at the time.

"Social media is a very binary place," Glover said. "It's love and hate, it's black and white."

Buyers picked a side fast.

European sales collapsed 97.5 percent by April 2025.

Jaguar sold 49 cars that month, down from 1,961 the year before.

That is the kind of collapse you see when a plant shuts down, not when a company merely swaps out a logo.

U.S. sales cratered from over 1,000 units a month to roughly 505.

President Trump summed up the reaction in one Truth Social post months later.

"Jaguar did a stupid, and seriously WOKE advertisement, THAT IS A TOTAL DISASTER!" Trump wrote.

He was not wrong.

Four Thousand Jobs Now on the Chopping Block

Balaji is now cutting 4,000 jobs, about 10 percent of Jaguar Land Rover's global workforce.

The cuts unfold over the next two years.

Voluntary redundancy applications are due October 4.

Compulsory layoffs follow if not enough workers volunteer to leave.

Balaji says the plan targets 1.7 billion pounds in savings and a lower break-even point near 300,000 vehicles a year.

He blamed "technological change amidst intense competition and ongoing geopolitical uncertainty."

He did not mention the leaping cat.

Balaji is not wrong that Chinese rivals are undercutting Jaguar on price and that a monthlong cyberattack hurt production last year.

Neither problem explains why buyers had already fled eighteen months earlier, back when the only thing wrong with Jaguar was the ad campaign running on their screens.

Thirty-four thousand Jaguar Land Rover employees work in Britain.

Most of the cuts land there.

Thousands of British factory workers now pay for a marketing stunt they never asked for and never approved.

Land Rover still outsells Jaguar's entire lineup, which tells you exactly which brand actually needed a makeover, and it was not Land Rover.

Britain's business secretary is meeting with Balaji as the layoffs became public, already ruling out a taxpayer bailout.

Adrian Mardell, the CEO who greenlit the whole campaign, was already gone months earlier.

Trump called that exit a resignation "in disgrace."

Accenture Song, the outside agency behind the campaign, is reportedly getting replaced once its contract runs out in mid-2026.

Everyone who touched the rebrand is gone except the people paying for it with their jobs.

Anheuser-Busch Already Wrote This Warning Label

Anheuser-Busch tried this exact stunt with Bud Light and Dylan Mulvaney back in 2023.

Sales never recovered, and Bud Light lost its throne as America's top-selling beer for good.

A full year later, one industry analyst said the boycott still had more staying power than most consumer revolts ever manage.

Jaguar had that receipt sitting in plain sight and ran the play anyway.

Nobody will remember the cyberattack or the Chinese price war a year from now.

They will remember the leaping cat that got deleted, and the four thousand jobs that got deleted next.

Accenture Song ran the outside shop that built the campaign, brought in over the objections of Jaguar's own in-house designers.

Nobody with actual car expertise got a veto over swapping androgynous models in for an actual vehicle in the commercial.

Watch Balaji keep cutting until the balance sheet matches reality instead of marketing fantasy.

Go woke, go broke used to be a punchline conservatives told at cocktail parties.

For Jaguar, it is now the balance sheet.
