Taylor Swift revealed one embarrassing NFL question she asked Travis Kelce that left him speechless

Taylor Swift might sell out stadiums worldwide, but when it comes to football basics, she was completely lost.
The pop superstar thought she knew what she was getting into when she started dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
And Taylor Swift revealed one embarrassing NFL question she asked Travis Kelce on their first date that shows just how clueless she really was about America’s favorite sport.
Swift thought football worked like a face-off
Swift made her debut appearance on Travis and Jason Kelce’s podcast "New Heights" Wednesday night, and the revelations about her football ignorance were jaw-dropping.
The Grammy winner admitted she asked Travis on their very first date what it was like when the Chiefs played Jason’s Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII – but she thought the brothers were literally facing off against each other on the field at the same time.
"Jason, on our first date, I legitimately asked him what it was like when the Chiefs played the Eagles in the Super Bowl, and he looked across the field across the line of scrimmage and saw his brother standing on the other, like five feet in front of him on the field," Swift recalled.¹
Travis apparently didn’t even dignify that question with a response.
"He didn’t even look at me. Like, I now know what an insane question that was," Swift admitted.¹
But it gets worse.
Swift thought football worked like some kind of medieval jousting match where quarterbacks squared off one-on-one.
"I thought everyone was on the field at the same time. I thought it was like Jared Goff is here, and Josh Allen is here, and they blow a whistle. And they go at each other, and they’re like, ‘Who’s going to win?’" she explained.¹
From clueless to completely obsessed
Swift’s transformation from football novice to die-hard fan happened faster than a Travis Kelce touchdown celebration.
The singer admitted she had no clue about the most basic football concepts when she first started dating the All-Pro tight end.
"I didn’t know what a first down was. I didn’t know what the chains were. I didn’t know what a tight end was," Swift confessed.¹
But once she caught the football bug, there was no stopping her enthusiasm.
Swift said she became so obsessed with the game that she was "running through the halls of my house screaming, ‘We drafted Xavier Worthy!’" when Kansas City selected the wide receiver with the 32nd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.¹
Her friends were completely baffled by the transformation.
"My friends are like, ‘Who body-snatched you? What do you mean we drafted Xavier Worthy?’" Swift recalled.¹
Even Travis expressed skepticism about her draft excitement since he didn’t even know who the team had selected at the time.
"I was so excited. I couldn’t believe it," Swift added about the Worthy pick.¹

Sports were just a vehicle for music
Swift’s relationship with athletics before Travis was purely transactional – everything was about advancing her music career.
Growing up in Pennsylvania, Swift said her only exposure to sports was hearing her dad yelling at Eagles games from upstairs while she focused on learning instruments.
"My relationship with sports was like, you know, I grew up in Pennsylvania. I always heard my dad yelling at the screen watching Eagles games. That was always the sports sounds that I heard in my house," she explained.¹
"However, I was up in my room, playing guitar, learning instruments, playing piano. I was focused on different things. I was so laser-focused on music, and that’s how it was in school."¹
When Swift did attend sporting events, it was only to perform the national anthem – sports were simply "a means to an end to get me to do music."¹
She knew Super Bowl halftime shows but never watched the actual games.
Travis took full credit for Swift becoming "engulfed" by football during a previous interview with GQ Magazine.
"I definitely became obsessed with sports when it came to him," Swift acknowledged.¹
The transformation shows just how powerful love can be – even turning one of the world’s biggest pop stars into someone who screams about NFL draft picks in her hallway.
Swift might not have understood football when she first met Travis, but her willingness to dive headfirst into his world shows the genuine nature of their relationship.
From asking embarrassing questions about Super Bowl matchups to celebrating draft selections, Swift’s journey from football novice to obsessed fan proves that when you really care about someone, you’ll learn to love what they love – even if it means admitting you once thought quarterbacks faced off in gladiator-style combat.
