PGA of America just sent scrambling one group that never saw this revolution coming in Texas

Golf’s old guard has been thrown for a loop.
The country club set isn’t ready for what’s about to hit them.
And the PGA of America just sent scrambling one group that never saw this revolution coming to Texas.
Elite training comes to America’s premier golf destination
The PGA of America announced a groundbreaking multiyear partnership with Sports Academy that’s going to change how golfers approach their game forever.¹
Starting July 7, the PGA of America Coaching Center powered by T-Mobile in Frisco, Texas began offering golfers access to world-class performance training, recovery, and diagnostics all under one roof.
This isn’t your grandfather’s golf lesson.
The partnership brings together elite golf instruction with evidence-based sports performance training, creating what may be the most comprehensive golf training environment in the country.
"This partnership with Sports Academy gives us the opportunity to show North Texas residents why the PGA of America Coaching Center is the premier teaching, coaching and training facility for golfers," said Tim Cusick, PGA Master Professional and Head Coach at the PGA of America Coaching Center.²
Sports Academy brings championship-level training to golf
Sports Academy has made its name training professional athletes across the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and Olympics.³
The California-based company operates state-of-the-art facilities in Thousand Oaks, California and Frisco, Texas, with a 96,000 square foot flagship location that’s trained some of the world’s best athletes.⁴
Now they’re bringing that same championship-level approach to golf.
"A key part of this partnership is shifting the conversation around golf fitness," said Nate Borunda, Co-Founder of Sports Academy. "We’re here to break down outdated beliefs and showcase what quality, individualized strength and performance training should look like for golfers—no matter their level."⁵
The partnership gives golfers access to experts in golf-specific strength and conditioning, sports science, sports nutrition, recovery, and soft tissue therapy.
The comprehensive approach that’s changing golf
What makes this partnership unique is the combination of elite instruction, custom club fitting, and Sports Academy’s multidisciplinary performance staff all in one location.
Golfers will have access to Sports Academy’s nearby Fieldhouse USA facility, featuring a state-of-the-art weight room, recovery lounge, and diagnostics lab.
This holistic model supports and enhances the PGA of America’s Athlete Development Model by not only training the body but addressing mindset and readiness for competition.
Rather than simply focusing on flexibility or core strength, golfers will be introduced to a progressive strength and conditioning approach rooted in sports science.
The goal is to build strength, power, mobility and movement efficiency without intimidation or unnecessary complexity through programs that meet each golfer where they are.
Elite facilities meet golf excellence
The PGA of America Coaching Center is located at the heart of the PGA’s 660-acre Frisco campus, which includes two championship golf courses and the luxurious Omni PGA Frisco Resort.⁶
The 12,000 square foot, two-story facility features 10 hitting bays with state-of-the-art technology that creates a high-tech, data-driven experience for golfers of all levels.⁷
Tim Cusick, one of America’s Top 100 Instructors, leads the coaching center with over three decades of experience shaping champions and casual enthusiasts alike.⁸
Sports Academy brings a track record of success that speaks for itself – they’ve trained hundreds of professional athletes and have partnerships with MLB, NFL, NBA, and WNBA Players Associations.⁹
The Frisco location is part of Sports Academy’s expansion strategy, with their flagship 96,000 square foot facility in Thousand Oaks serving as the model for comprehensive athletic development.¹⁰
What this means for the future of golf
This partnership represents a seismic shift in how golf instruction is approached.
For decades, golf has been stuck in the past when it comes to athletic development and performance training.
While other sports have embraced sports science, data-driven training, and comprehensive athlete development, golf has lagged behind.
That’s all changing now.
The PGA of America recognizes that modern golfers want more than just swing tips – they want to develop their bodies and minds to perform at their peak.
This partnership shows the golf establishment is finally catching up to what professional athletes in other sports have known for years.
Sports Academy’s full-circle approach to training includes not just physical development but cognitive training, recovery protocols, and nutrition guidance.
The fact that the PGA of America – the sport’s governing body with nearly 29,000 golf professionals – is embracing this comprehensive approach signals a new era for golf instruction.¹¹
Traditional golf instructors who’ve relied on outdated methods are going to have to adapt or get left behind.
The golfers who embrace this new approach to training will have a significant advantage over those who stick to the old ways.
This partnership is just the beginning of what promises to be a revolution in how golfers train and develop their games.
