The James Bond movie franchise has almost exclusively been under the control of Eon Productions founded by the late Albert Broccoli since the release of Dr. No in 1961.
Only 1967’s Casino Royale and 1983’s Never Say Never Again are the only Bond movies to be produced by other companies.
Producer Barbara Broccoli and her half-brother Michael Wilson took over control of Eon Productions after Albert passed away.
They’ve kept tight control over the Bond franchise with strict rules to keep it from being run into the ground like Hollywood movie franchises.
Broccoli insisted that Bond must be British and avoided pressure to cast a woman as 007.
She avoided the spinoffs, TV series, and product licensing that many argue led to the downfall of the Star Wars franchise.
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studio owned the rights to distribute the Bond movies.
The studio was purchased by Amazon in 2022 for $8.5 billion.
Broccoli and Amazon have been at a statement of the future Bond franchise since then.
No Bond movie has been released since 2021’s No Time To Die when actor Daniel Craig retired from the 007 role.
Amazon wanted to take Bond in a completely different direction with a TV show featuring a female Bond, a spinoff series for Miss Moneypenny – Bond’s secretary – and a variety of other shows for the Prime Video streaming service.
Broccoli drew a line in the sand about diluting the Bond brand and making the franchise woke.
“These people are f***ing idiots,” Broccoli said about Amazon executives, according to the Wall Street Journal.
She was a standoff with Amazon about what direction the next Bond movie should take.
There was even speculation that the famous Bond girl in the next movie could be transgender.

Longtime James Bond producers turn control of the franchise over to Amazon
Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli shocked Hollywood when they announced they would be giving control of James Bond over to Amazon MGM Studios.
They will remain co-owners of Bond but Amazon will be making all of the creative decisions.
“We are honoured to continue this treasured heritage, and look forward to ushering in the next phase of the legendary 007 for audiences around the world,” Prime Video and Amazon MGM head Mike Hopkins said in a statement.
The 83-year-old Wilson said that he was retiring from the movie business after 60 years.
Broccoli said her half-brother Wilson retiring led her to decide to move on to other things.
“I have had the honor of working closely with four of the tremendously talented actors who have played 007 and thousands of wonderful artists within the industry. With the conclusion of ‘No Time to Die’ and Michael retiring from the films, I feel it is time to focus on my other projects,” Broccoli said.
