Trump’s most powerful enemy is terrified at what Clarence Thomas just said
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is the Left’s biggest enemy.
Simply standing for the Constitution is enough to get that title.
And Trump’s most powerful enemy is terrified at what he just said.
Clarence Thomas came from nothing and has moved his way up to serving on the U.S.’s top Court.
He is a success story that Americans should look up to and prove just how great the country is.
But because he is a black conservative, the Left despises him, and believes he is somehow working against his own interests.
Justice Thomas doesn’t care, and instead continues to fight for what he believes in.
With the world moving forward technologically, that fight is evolving in major ways.
Now he is in a very powerful position to take on Big Tech platforms like Facebook and Twitter.
At their inception, those platforms were a place for people to get together and speak freely.
But now it doesn’t fit that same mission for conservatives, who are often silenced on those platforms for speaking their opinions.
They have even gone so far as to censor President Trump on multiple occasions.
Many claim that these platforms have the right to do that, as they are private companies.
But those people generally don’t understand the reason they have the ability to foster free conversations in the first place.
Inside the Communications Decency Act, Section 230 grants those platforms the ability to have legal immunity, so individuals cannot sue the platform for content other people post.
The caveat in that legal immunity is that they must be open platforms that allow free speech.
As soon as they begin deciding what views are and are not allowed on the platform, they no longer fit that category, and instead become a publisher.
Justice Thomas has hinted that the Supreme Court may look into clarifying this rule, which he believes is “too broad.”
“When Congress enacted the statute, most of today’s major Internet platforms did not exist. And in the 24 years since, we have never interpreted this provision,” Justice Thomas wrote. “But many courts have construed the law broadly to confer sweeping immunity on some of the largest companies in the world.”
Revoking the protections granted in section 230 would be devastating to Big Tech, and shut down their plans to shut up Trump supporters.
