Trump just won a huge victory that left liberals fuming
Chuck Schumer and the Democrats made their bet that obstructing Donald Trump’s nominees would grind the administration to a halt.
Personnel is policy and with key positions sitting empty while the Democrats gummed up the confirmation process, Trump was left without a team to implement his agenda.
But that all changed when Trump just won a huge victory that left the liberals fuming.
The Senate confirmed CIA Director Mike Pompeo by a 57-42 vote on Thursday.
Pompeo was Trump’s choice to replace the fired Rex Tillerson and he had already secretly traveled to North Korea to lay the groundwork for the Trump-Kim Jong Un summit.
Democrats failed to stop Pompeo and Republicans blasted their obstructionism after the vote.
“After the vote, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), the Senate majority whip, blasted Democrats who voted against Pompeo and for delaying the confirmation of a number of Trump appointees.
“The man has what it takes for the job. That’s why the no votes from our Democratic colleagues rang hollow,” he said.
He said Democrats were attempting to “lash out at President Trump,” which he called “disappointing” and a “sad break from tradition.”
“It’s a sorry continuation of the hyper-partisanship they’ve been engaging in,” he added, noting that one year ago, 14 Democrats and one Independent had voted to confirm Pompeo as CIA director.
Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) has said he opposed Pompeo’s nomination based on his gay marriage views, despite his 2008 endorsement of then-Sen. Barack Obama, who had the same views.”
Confirming Pompeo was a victory for Trump over obstructionist Democrats.
The Democrats have been squeezing every hour of the 30 hours of debate on nominees and that has stalled the confirmation process.
Trump stated he believed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell should keep the Senate in session seven days a week in order to confirm executive branch and judicial nominees.
