Trump just asked Mike Pence to do the one thing to stop Joe Biden from stealing the election
The joint session of Congress is Donald Trump’s last chance to prevent what he claims is a fraudulent election from becoming official.
President Trump and his allies believe Vice President Mike Pence will play a crucial role in the day’s event.
And Donald Trump just asked Mike Pence to do the one thing to stop Joe Biden from stealing the election.
At a campaign rally ahead of the two Georgia Senate runoff elections, President Trump took some time to discuss the impending joint session of Congress to certify the election results.
President Trump told the crowd that Vice President Pence would preside over the event and expressed his hope that Pence would “come through.”
“There is nothing the radical Democrats won’t do to get in power that they so desperately crave, even the outright stealing of elections like they are trying to do with us. We’re not going to let it happen. Over the past . . .” President Trump explained. “. . . And I hope Mike Pence comes through for us, I have to tell you. I hope that our great vice president, our great Vice President comes through for us. He’s a great guy. Of course, if he doesn’t come through, I won’t like him quite as much,” President Trump told the crowd.
Some Trump supporters in Congress believe Pence has much more than the ceremonial power to merely read the results of the Electoral College.
They argue that the 1877 Electoral Count Act does not strip the Vice President of his powers and that Pence can reject slates of Electors that he deems fraudulent.
President Trump followed up his comment by saying that Mike Pence is a good guy and that he would “call it straight” during the joint session.
“No, Mike is a great guy. He is a wonderful man and a smart man. And a man that I like. A lot. But he’s going to have a lot to stay about it,” the President explained. “You know one thing with him you’re going to get straight shots. He’s going to call it straight.”
To President Trump, that could mean Pence sides with the Republican Senators and Congressman filing objections to multiple states.
If that is the case, Vice President Pence will be looked at like a hero to the Trump base.
