This Democrat Senator’s career is over after she made the worst mistake of her life
Democrat Senator Heidi Heitkamp is in the fight of her political career.
She can’t afford to lose a single vote in North Dakota, a state Donald Trump won by 36 percent.
But her campaign just made a huge mistake and it could cost her everything.
Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) is widely regarded as the most vulnerable senator up for re-election in the midterms.
Her campaign thought they could capitalize on the #MeToo movement by releasing a campaign newspaper ad that named sexual assault survivors.
The ad used sexual assault survivors as pawns to attack Heitkamp’s Republican opponent.
But there were two major problems.
Many of the women named never gave their consent and others weren’t victims of sexual assault at all.
And now at least one woman named Lexi Zhorela – a self-proclaimed liberal – says she won’t be voting for Heitkamp anymore.
The Daily Caller reports:
One of the women whose name was published in Democratic Sen. Heitkamp’s open letter, which listed alleged sexual assault survivors without their consent, said Thursday morning that she will not be voting for her.
The letter was directed at Heitkamp’s opponent for the midterm election in North Dakota. More than 100 names were listed, including Lexi Zhorela, who was on CNN, as “survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or rape.”
Following its publication, Heitkamp said in a statement, “I deeply regret this mistake and we are in the process of issuing a retraction, personally apologizing to each of the people impacted by this and taking the necessary steps to ensure this never happens again.”
Heitkamp has apologized for the ad.
But there’s no putting the cat back in the bag for her.
A recent Fox News poll of likely voters in North Dakota put Heitkamp 12 points behind her opponent, Republican Kevin Cramer.
She is all but a dead duck.
