One set of bombshell numbers just destroyed Nancy Pelosi and left Democrats in a panic
The bad news is not letting up.
Democrats realize the level of political danger they are in.
And this one set of bombshell numbers just destroyed Nancy Pelosi and left Democrats in a panic.
Democrats hoped to turn the page from Joe Biden’s debacle in Afghanistan to the Texas Pro-Life law and pin Hurricane Ida’s ravages on so-called “climate chanage.”
But despite the media’s attempts to help change the subject, Afghanistan dominated the conversation on social media.
From August 28 to September 3 Afghanistan generated 43.7 million social media interactions while Hurricane Ida and the Texas Pro-Life law combined for 11 million.
The leftwing outlet Axios spelled out the scale of the Democrats’ problem.
Why it matters: Democrats are banking on the Afghanistan chaos having little impact on the 2022 midterms. But the data, which comes as Biden’s approval rating slid underwater, shows the potential potency of a story unfolding thousands of miles away.
By the numbers: Afghanistan stories generated 6.5 times more engagement on social media than those about Hurricane Ida and its remnants in the Northeast, the second-biggest story last week.
That can’t be explained by simply the volume of coverage. Afghanistan stories generated a per-article rate of 290 social media likes, comments or shares — compared with 54 interactions for each storm-related article.
Joe Biden and his team thought polls showing that Americans approved of ending the war in Afghanistan would eventually allow Biden to regain his standing.
But the intensity of the social media reaction to Biden’s failure to end the war in a safe and honorable manner showed that Americans’ disapproval of Biden’s execution of the withdrawal is likely to be the dominant sentiment about Afghanistan heading into the 2022 and 2024 elections.
And that could cost Democrats everything.
