One letter is about to change CNN forever in a way that no one ever expected
CNN President Jeff Zucker resigned in disgrace after admitting he concealed an affair with a subordinate.
Now all hell is breaking loose.
And one letter is about to change CNN forever in a way that no one ever expected.
Discovery CEO David Zaslav appointed CBS executive Chris Licht as the new President of CNN.
In Licht’s first letter to staffers, he promised massive changes at CNN.
“Our viewers demand the truth from us, and I want to learn the truth from you. Together, we will double-down on what’s working well and quickly eliminate what’s not,” Licht stated.
Those changes figure to be far more sweeping than anyone imagined, as Zaslav and Licht plan to cut back on the leftist opinion programming that is now a staple of CNN’s low-rated primetime lineup.
Axios’s Mike Allen exclusively reported:
Under new chief Chris Licht, CNN will dial down the prime-time partisanship and double down on the network’s news-gathering muscle, top sources tell me…
…Between the lines: Axios is told that Licht and Zaslav share a view that CNN was chasing prime-time ratings at the expense of the brand.
Zaslav wants to move CNN back to the middle.
Licht’s letter to CNN employees appeared to confirm that reporting when he wrote that CNN’s focus would be on “NEWS” in all capital letters for emphasis.
“The honest answer is that I don’t know yet. David Zaslav has given me one simple directive: To ensure that CNN remains the global leader in NEWS as part of Warner Bros. Discovery,” Licht wrote.
Beginning with the 2016 election, Jeff Zucker positioned CNN as the voice of the opposition to the Trump administration.
That push to serve as a propaganda outlet for Democrats culminated with CNN achieving record ratings during the Democrats’ second attempt to impeach Donald Trump.
However, CNN reached the ratings pot of gold at the expense of its own credibility.
Once Trump left office, CNN lost 90 percent of its primetime audience.
Zaslav and Licht recognize that reality and look like they want to move CNN back away from left-wing opinion programming and more towards regular news.
Many would welcome this shift.
CNN turned into a parody of itself with bombastic liberals like Don Lemon, Brian Stelter, Jake Tapper, and Jim Acosta acting like Democrat Party press agents as opposed to journalists.
But those days appear to be over.
