One Congressman is retiring because of this sex scandal involving ISIS
Politicians in Washington, D.C. still possess the capacity to shock the conscience.
But no one saw this coming.
And one Congressman is retiring because of this sex scandal involving ISIS.
Texas Congressman Van Taylor announced he would not seek re-election after Breitbart published a story alleging he paid $5,000 in hush money to former “ISIS bride” Tania Joya to cover up evidence of their sexual affair.
“About a year ago, I made a horrible mistake that has caused deep hurt and pain among those I love most in this world. I had an affair, it was wrong, and it was the greatest failure of my life,” Taylor wrote in a statement.
“I want to apologize for the pain I have caused with my indiscretion, most of all to my wife Anne and our three daughters,” Taylor concluded.
Joya told Breitbart she met Taylor due to her interest in combating violent extremism.
Joya married an American man in 2003 who converted to Islam and moved to Syria in 2013, where he began supporting ISIS.
At that point, Joya fled for her life after seeing how ISIS abused and enslaved women.
Joya told Breitbart that after she met Taylor, he allegedly began sending her explicit text messages asking her to perform sexual acts on him.
“He considered me his girlfriend. He labeled me his girlfriend, his mistress,” Joya told Breitbart. “I told him that I found him attractive. After that for an entire month, every day during October 2020, he wouldn’t stop messaging me like crazy. It was just so distracting. He was going crazy for it.”
“He said he wanted me to be his loyal, faithful, and permanent mistress,” Joya continued.
Taylor just missed avoiding a runoff in his Primary in Texas.
Rather than face the prospect of daily negative news cycles focused around his affair with an alleged “ISIS bride,” Taylor admitted to cheating on his wife and dropped out of the race.
Now the second and third place finishers will qualify for the runoff.
Van Taylor voted to certify the results of the 2020 election, saying that was the conservative thing to do.
Taylor also voted with Nancy Pelosi to create the January 6 witch hunt Select Committee.
Many conservatives rooted for his defeat this Primary cycle.
But no one thought the end would come like this.
