Nancy Pelosi may lose her job after this Democrat’s public betrayal

Nancy Pelosi announced her intention to run for another term as Speaker of the House.
But Pelosi got some bad news on that front.
And now Nancy Pelosi may lose her job after this Democrat’s public betrayal.
In 2018, Elissa Slotkin flipped a Republican held district in Michigan as part of the suburban uprising that powered Democrats to a majority in the House of Representatives.
But two years later, Slotkin was one of many Democrats whose polls told them they would win in a landslide.
Slotkin eked out a four point win and is in major danger of losing her seat in 2022.
In an interview with POLITICO, Slotkin revealed that she planned to vote against Pelosi as leader because Slotkin believes Pelosi brings a failed leadership style to the table.
“I will not be voting for Nancy Pelosi,” Slotkin told POLITICO. “I have no idea if people are gonna run against her, or who might run against her. And I will of course have this conversation directly with her. But I believe we need new leadership. I would love to see more Midwesterners, because if you look across the leadership. […] I respect these people, but it’s New York and California.”
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy forecast this defection.
In a press conference boasting about Republican gains in the House, McCarthy noted that Republicans flipped so many seats that if the ten Democrats remaining in Congress that voted against Pelosi for Speaker in 2019 did so again, there were enough votes to oust Pelosi as Speaker of the House.
“To become Speaker you have to have 218 votes on the floor,” McCarthy. “When Pelosi went up for that vote two years ago, there were 15 Democrats who voted against her. Ten of those Democrats will be coming to Congress. Those 10 vote against her again, she will not be Speaker of the House.”
