Nancy Pelosi is hoping Americans won’t smack her down over this one festering Democrat problem that’s costing lives
The radical wing of the Democrat Party is in control in Washington, D.C. for now.
They’re consolidating power but mainstream “elites” pushed the worst ideas of the Left right out of the gates and it’s threatening to blow up in their faces.
Now Nancy Pelosi is hoping Americans won’t smack her down over this one festering Democrat problem that’s costing lives.
Lost in all of the Democrats’ “defund the police” rhetoric is the uncomfortable truth that crime is skyrocketing.
The 2020 riots cost dozens of people their lives as well as over $2 billion in property damage.
But that doesn’t even properly contextualize the widespread spike in crime.
A recent report in The Claremont Review of Books put things in sharp focus:
The New York Times recently reported that Americans suffered 30% more homicides in 2020 than in 2019. “In Chicago and several other cities, last year was the worst year for killings since the mid-1990s.” Sociologist Patrick Sharkey, author of Uneasy Peace: The Great Crime Decline, The Renewal of City Life, and the Next War on Violence (2018), said in a March 2021 interview with the Atlantic that a “huge surge” had made 2020 “the most violent year of the [21st] century.”
Read that again “the most violent year of the century.”
Firearm sales increased significantly in 2020 due to the riots, uncertainty over COVID—particularly with convicted felons getting early release because of the pandemic—and a retreat of police officers amid demonization from the Democrats and the corporate press.
The Claremont Review of Books article went on to note:
Every indication, though, is that 2021 will be even more lethal. So far, says the Times, the homicide rate is 24% higher in 2021 than it was last year. The number of killings was 23% higher in New York City than in 2020 over the same period, and 28% higher in Philadelphia. We are in a time of “rising violence,” according to Sharkey, with the “gradual increase” in violent crime that began in 2014 accelerating sharply in the past two years.
With a Democrat Party growing ever-more radical in charge in Washington, D.C., Democrats’ soft-on-crime policies of the 1970s are making a comeback.
Meanwhile, progressive district attorneys – many of them backed by George Soros – are running amok in cities nationwide.
Philadelphia recently re-elected DA Larry Krasner, who oversaw the harrowing rise in violent crime in the “City of Brotherly Love.”
Businesses are fleeing San Francisco in light of DA Chesa Boudin’s far-left policies that have allowed shoplifters to run rampant; Boudin is the son of convicted Weather Underground terrorists who was raised by other Weather Underground terrorists while his parents served time.
Progressive DAs highlight a fundamental problem of the Left – they’re more interested in reducing incarceration numbers than actually reducing crime.
Even though prosecutions for theft and “petty” crimes have decreased in these deep blue areas, the Democrats can’t make dead bodies go away.
Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer know their majorities in Congress could disappear if the bodies continue piling up everywhere Democrats are in charge.
