Mitch McConnell got blindsided by this resignation demand
Conservatives have been furious with Mitch McConnell for years.
There is finally a push within the Senate GOP ranks to dump their failed leader.
And Mitch McConnell got blindsided by this resignation demand.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) attended a press conference with six other Senate Republicans – Mike Braun (R-IN), J.D. Vance (R-OH), Rick Scott (R-FL), Mike Lee (R-UT), Ron Johnson (R-WI), Roger Marshall (R-KS) and Eric Schmitt (R-MO) – who all voted against RINO Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) continuing on as Senate Republican leader following the GOP’s disappointing showing in the midterm election.
Cruz blasted McConnell for orchestrating a betrayal at the border where McConnell blessed a bill that would allow President Joe Biden to import nearly 2 million illegal aliens – the equivalent of the population of West Virginia – each year into America.
The bill also left immigration enforcement up to Biden meaning Republicans would have to take the word of the man who opened the southern border that he would suddenly crack down on illegal border crossings.
McConnell also showed his true colors by backing a bill that included $20 billion in funding to secure America’s border while supporting another bill to spend $61 billion to secure Ukraine’s border.
Opposition built to the point where House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) declared the border betrayal “dead on arrival” in the House of Representatives and McConnell even threw in the towel telling Republicans they should vote against ending a filibuster on the bill.
When a reporter asked Cruz if this fiasco meant it was time for McConnell to step down as GOP leader in the Senate, he answered in the affirmative.
“I think it is,” Cruz stated.
“Everyone here also supported to the leadership challenge to Mitch McConnell in November [2022,]” Cruz added.
Cruz slammed McConnell as a RINO who worked on behalf of the interests of the Washington, D.C. “Swamp” – McConnell always provides the votes to raise the debt limit and fund Joe Biden’s woke, weaponized government – and against those of the Republican Party.
“I think a Republican leader should actually lead this conference and should advance the priorities of Republicans,” Cruz added.
Former President Donald Trump is also no fan of Mitch McConnell.
If Trump wins in 2024, McConnell may very well bow out and retire from the U.S. Senate and the GOP conference can elect new leadership.
This border betrayal was likely the last straw.
