Joe Biden’s call to action could have just cost Democrats the majority
Democrats hold an ever so slight majority in both houses of Congress.
It’s entirely possible that could soon change.
And Joe Biden’s recent call to action could have just cost the Democrats the majority.
To commemorate the third anniversary of the tragedy in Parkland, Florida, Biden found it fitting to release a statement announcing his administration’s intention to shred the Second Amendment by banning guns, making it easier for Americans to sue gun manufacturers, and to create a national gun registration database.
The White House statement said:
“This Administration will not wait for the next mass shooting to heed that call. We will take action to end our epidemic of gun violence and make our schools and communities safer. Today, I am calling on Congress to enact common sense gun law reforms, including requiring background checks on all gun sales, banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and eliminating immunity for gun manufacturers who knowingly put weapons of war on our streets. We owe it to all those we’ve lost and to all those left behind to grieve to make a change. The time to act is now.”
Democrats have several incumbent Senators running for re-election in pro-gun states such as New Hampshire, Arizona, and Georgia.
The majority is very much in play.
Republicans only need to win a net gain of just one Senate seat in the 2022 midterms.
Democrats know that history shows pushing gun control is political poison.
Democrats were wiped out in 1994 after Bill Clinton put his assault weapons ban in place, and they again saw defeat in 2013 when Barack Obama pushed for a gun registration database.
Joe Biden’s call to action on banning guns could spell disaster for the Democrats in 2022.
