Joe Biden top choice for VP may turn him down for this crazy reason

Joe Biden will select his Vice Presidential running mate in the coming days.

But the selection process may have just been thrown into chaos.

And that’s because Joe Biden’s top choice for VP may turn him down for this crazy reason.

Joe Biden promised to select a woman as his running mate.

The Black Lives Matter riots following the death of George Floyd made it clear Biden needed to pick a black woman.

That led to talk that California Senator Kamala Harris was the natural choice as Biden’s running mate.

But former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown – who served as Harris’s political mentor – authored an op-ed arguing that Harris should turn Biden down if he offers her the role of running mate.

Brown cited the fact that the Vice Presidency oftentimes was a career dead end.

“But the glory would be short-lived, and historically, the vice presidency has often ended up being a dead end. For every George H.W. Bush, who ascended from the job to the presidency, there’s an Al Gore, who never got there,” Brown wrote.

Brown argued that the VP becomes politically irrelevant the day after the election and that the Biden administration figured it would undergo a series of setbacks over the next two years.

“Plus, if Biden wins, the Democrats will be moving into the White House in the middle of a pandemic and economic recession. The next few years promise to be a very bumpy ride. Barack Obama and the Democrats saved the nation from economic collapse when he took office, and their reward was a blowout loss in the 2010 midterm elections,” Brown added.
Brown claimed that Harris should instead seek the position of Attorney General, which would afford her a position of real power while providing some distance from Biden’s failure.

“Best of all, being Attorney General would give Harris enough distance from the White House to still be a viable candidate for the top slot in 2024 or 2028, no matter what the state of the nation,” Brown concluded.

If Biden does not pick Harris, former Obama National Security Advisor Susan Rice is the next most likely selection.
