Donald Trump made this huge announcement about not running for President
Donald Trump has been the leader of the Republican Party for nearly a decade.
But that time is running out.
And now Donald Trump made this huge announcement about not running for President.
Donald Trump says he won’t run for President again in 2028
Journalist Sharyl Attkisson asked former President Donald Trump if he would run for President for a fourth time in 2028 if he lost to Vice President Kamala Harris in November.
“If you are not successful this time, do you see yourself running again in four years?” Attkisson asked Trump.
For the first time ever, he pondered the end of his political career.
Trump told Attkisson that this campaign was it for him.
“No, I don’t,” Trump said “I think that will be — that will be it. I don’t see that at all. Hopefully, we are going to be successful.”
Of course, if Trump wins, the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution means he can’t run again in 2028.
But if Trump were to lose to Kamala, he would be 82 years old in 2028 and coming off two election defeats.
Trump saying he wouldn’t run again is just a concession to time and common sense.
However, he would still likely play a role as a kingmaker in the GOP.
Trump’s endorsement in a GOP Presidential Primary – or any other race that year – would still be highly sought after by candidates as between 2016 and 2024 more than 200 million Americans cast their ballots for Trump for President which means he would have won more votes than any President in history.
What Trump stepping off the stage means
Trump putting a time horizon on his political career also means that the GOP establishment will gear up for a major fight with the Trump base over control of the Republican Party.
RINO strategist Karl Rove previewed the coming Civil War in an appearance at The Atlantic Festival.
Rove predicted that the RINO establishment – which supports open borders, endless wars abroad, and opposes Trump’s America First trade policies – would regain the upper hand.
“Josh Hawley? JD Vance? You know, you take those and match them up against a Brian Kemp or a Glenn Youngkin or a Tim Scott or fill-in-the-blank and it’s hard to see that they have anywhere near the ability to mobilize a populist movement that he has,” Rove stated.
“I don’t see the person that follows him,” Rove added.
Donald Trump remade the Republican Party in 2016 by giving a voice to the base’s frustrations with the GOP establishment that sold them out at every turn.
Rather than do any sort of self-reflection about how they lost control of the party to Trump or what they could do to win back the trust of the voters, establishment RINOs like Rove believe they just have to bide their time, wait for him to exit the stage, and go back to running the same type of candidates who support the same type of policies as in the pre-Trump era.
