Donald Trump made a Supreme Court prediction that came back to bite Democrats
Donald Trump warned Democrats this would happen.
But now no one on the Left is laughing.
And Donald Trump made a Supreme Court prediction that came back to bite Democrats.
Someone inside the Supreme Court – likely a left-wing Justice or one of their clerks – leaked a draft opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito overturning Roe v. Wade to POLITICO.
Writing for a five-Justice majority, Alito argued that it was time for the Court to end their involvement in the issue of abortion and return it to the states.
“We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,” Justice Alito writes. “It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.”
Justice Alito added that Roe was wrongly decided and that the Supreme Court injecting itself into the issue back in 1973 only served to inflame America’s political divide.
“Roe was egregiously wrong from the start. Its reasoning was exceptionally weak, and the decision has had damaging consequences. And far from bringing about a national settlement of the abortion issue, Roe and Casey have enflamed debate and deepened division,” Justice Alito added.
When Donald Trump ran for President in 2016, he promised this day would come.
In the final debate against Hillary Clinton, Trump predicted that if he won the election, the Supreme Court would overturn Roe v. Wade.
Trump accurately forecast that he would have as many as three Supreme Court selections, and that those Justices would provide the deciding votes.
“Well, if we put another two or perhaps three Justices on, that’s really what’s going to be—that will happen,” Trump stated. “And that’ll happen automatically, in my opinion, because I am putting Pro-Life Justices on the Court.”
“I am Pro-Life, and I will be appointing Pro-Life judges,” Trump declared.
Trump also explained that overturning Roe would send the decision back to the states.
“I will say this: It will go back to the states, and the states will then make a determination,” Trump told Americans.
That is exactly what happened.
Trump nominated three Supreme Court Justices – Amy Coney Barrett, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh.
According to POLITICO’s reporting, Barrett, Kavanaugh, and Gorsuch joined with Justices Alito and Thomas to form the five-Justice majority that may finally send Roe v. Wade to the dustbin of history.
