Donald Trump gave this order that could mean jail time for Black Lives Matter rioters
Americans are wondering when the chaos on the streets is going to come to an end.
On Tuesday morning they may have finally gotten their answer.
That’s because Donald Trump gave this order that could mean jail time for Black Lives Matter rioters.
On Monday night, rioters and vandals gathered in Lafayette Park across from the White House and tried to tear down a statue of former President Andrew Jackson commemorating his victory at the Battle of New Orleans.
Police eventually moved in to stop the desecration of American history.
But Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton (R) argued that wasn’t enough.
On social media, Senator Cotton wrote that destroying a statue of former President Jackson carried a ten year prison sentence under the Veterans Memorial Preservation and Recognition Act.
“And, by the way, criminal masterminds, you’re destroying a statue on federal property that commemorates the military service of Andrew Jackson, a crime that carries a 10-year sentence under the Veterans Memorial Preservation and Recognition Act. And you’re on tape. Lock ‘em up!” Senator Cotton wrote.
The following morning President Trump announced he was ordering the government to enforce this law and jail any rioter who vandalized or destroyed statues protected under this act.
“I have authorized the Federal Government to arrest anyone who vandalizes or destroys any monument, statue or other such Federal property in the U.S. with up to 10 years in prison, per the Veteran’s Memorial Preservation Act, or such other laws that may be pertinent This action is taken effective immediately, but may also be used retroactively for destruction or vandalism already caused. There will be no exceptions!” the President wrote.
Many Americans hope this is the start of a crackdown on protests that demonstrators initially claimed were aimed at combating police brutality but were recently exposed as a cultural revolution aimed at destroying America as many know it.
