Democrats just let it leak when they think Nancy Pelosi will retire

Nancy Pelosi’s time in Congress is coming to an end.

It’s a matter of when and not if Nancy Pelosi will step down.

Now Democrats just let it leak when they think Nancy Pelosi will retire.

A report in The Atlantic Magazine revealed that Democrats believe Nancy Pelosi will retire after the 2022 midterm election.

But Pelosi’s top two deputies – Steny Hoyer and Jim Clyburn – are over 80-years-old and unlikely to succeed Pelosi so they have an incentive to deny rumors about Pelosi’s retirement.

“Her top deputies . . . aspire to her job, but they’re also in their early 80s, and most Democrats in and out of Congress are counting on them to step aside too. Of course, they all have stock responses denying that anyone is ever going anywhere,” The Atlantic reported. “But the day is coming.”

The Atlantic reported that if Democrats hold the majority in the next election, New York’s Hakeem Jeffries will become Speaker of the House.

“Democratic members of Congress won’t talk about any of this publicly, as if Pelosi might suddenly appear and pull their hearts from their chests,” The Atlantic also reported.
“Pretty much every Democrat in Congress and beyond is confident that Representative Hakeem Jeffries of New York will be the next speaker of the House, if Democrats manage to hold on to their majority next year.”

Speaker Paul Ryan announced his retirement ahead of the 2018 midterm elections in a move that Donald Trump and many conservatives saw as waiving the white flag of defeat before any voters cast their ballots.

Democrats are already facing a difficult midterm election environment.

And Pelosi knows that announcing her retirement before the election will send a signal to Democrat voters that their leaders believe their cause is lost.

But it’s now expected that once the election is over Pelosi will resign from Congress.
