CNN fired a top anchor after this sexual misconduct allegation surfaced
CNN finally faced a breaking point with Chris Cuomo.
This move took everyone by surprise.
And CNN fired a top anchor after this sexual misconduct allegation surfaced.
When CNN suspended Chris Cuomo indefinitely after a New York State Attorney General report revealed he used his media contacts to dig up dirt on the women who accused his brother Governor Andrew Cuomo of sexual harassment, everyone figured CNN would keep him off the air until the scandal blew over.
That’s what CNN did when legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin masturbated on a Zoom call with his New Yorker co-workers.
CNN suspended Toobin for six months and then eventually put Toobin back on the air.
But out of no where on Saturday, CNN announced they fired Cuomo immediately following an allegation by a co-worker of sexual harassment.
“Chris Cuomo was suspended earlier this week pending further evaluation of new information that came to light about his involvement with his brother’s defense. We retained a respected law firm to conduct the review, and have terminated him, effective immediately. While in the process of that review, additional information has come to light. Despite the termination, we will investigate as appropriate,” a CNN statement read.
Ever since reports surfaced that Chris Cuomo sat in on strategy calls to help his brother respond to the allegations that eventually forced Andrew Cuomo to resign, critics blasted CNN for standing by Chris Cuomo even though Chris Cuomo could no longer function as a news anchor because of his role in this scandal.
But even so-called “media reporter” Brian Stelter speculated that Cuomo would be back on the air by January.
However, an internal investigation uncovered an allegation of sexual misconduct against Cuomo by a former female co-worker.
“The woman who leveled the unknown accusations against Chris Cuomo, 51, was a former ‘junior colleague’ at another news network, according to Debra Katz, the accuser’s lawyer, the paper said. The allegation was reportedly not connected to the cascade of accusations that led Andrew Cuomo to resign from office in the face of impeachment four months ago,” the New York Post reported.
And this eventually became the point of no return for Cuomo’s career at CNN.
