Barack Obama had a surprising thing to say about Nancy Pelosi’s future
For eight years, Barack Obama worked hand in hand with Nancy Pelosi.
They were thought to be close allies.
But Barack Obama had a surprising thing to say about Nancy Pelosi’s future.
Nancy Pelosi had a brutal 2020 election cycle.
Pelosi bragged that Democrats would win as many as 15 or 20 seats in the House.
Instead, Republicans made double digit gains and cut the Democrats to the slimmest margin since the 1940s.
In an interview with Snapchat correspondent Peter Hamby, former President Barack Obama threw Nancy Pelosi under the bus and hinted it was time for her to go away.
“Now one thing I will say about the Democratic Party, promoting young people is really important,” Obama stated. “We stick so long with the same old folks and don’t make room for new voices.”
The 80-year-old Pelosi has been the Democrats’ leader in the House since 2003 and has overseen some of the party’s biggest election defeats in history.
Instead, Obama suggested that “Squad” member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez should be given a bigger profile and criticized Democrats for only giving Ocasio-Cortez one minute to speak at the Democrat National Convention this past summer.
“The fact that an AOC only got, what? Three minutes or five minutes? When she speaks to a broad section of young people who are interested in what she has to say, even if they don’t agree with everything she says,” Obama added. “New blood is always good.”
Obama knows that Pelosi’s time in Congress is running out.
If Republicans win back the majority in 2022, Pelosi will likely retire.
So Obama is casting his lot with Ocasio-Cortez because Obama recognizes that her socialist worldview represents the future of the party.
