Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez delivered a six-word warning to Joe Biden about Trump that no one saw coming

Democrats are beginning to take stock of what a 2024 rematch between Donald Trump and Joe Biden would look like.

The perspective on the election changed drastically over the last month.

And Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez delivered a six-word warning to Joe Biden about Trump that no one saw coming.

Democrats know Joe Biden is deeply unpopular and the American people view him as a failed President who is not physically or mentally capable of performing the job of President.

But for the last year, Democrats took comfort in their assumption that Donald Trump permanently alienated enough swing voters to mark him as unelectable in a general election.

Ocasio-Cortez did not buy that line of thinking.

In an interview with POLITICO Playbook, Ocasio-Cortez warned “that they still continue to underestimate Trump.”

Ocasio-Cortez pointed to polls that indicated Joe Biden could score a 400-vote Electoral College landslide that turned out to be wrong as evidence that the party was caught napping before.

The 2020 election came down to 40,000 votes across three states and Ocasio-Cortez cautioned that Trump’s ability to mobilize his base made him a dangerous opponent in 2024.

“I don’t think we should ever be rooting for Trump in any situation. […] 2020 was not a blowout. We have to really understand that as long as the Electoral College is in place, these elections are very often decided — sometimes by tens of thousands of votes — in a very small handful of states. […] There are a lot of times that I think people overestimate Trump in certain areas. But they still continue to underestimate Trump, I think, in his ability to carry a message and carry a base,” Ocasio-Cortez warned.

The other problem Democrats have entering the 2024 election is the fact that Joe Biden has a record.

Americans see an unsecure border, runaway inflation, and the threat of nuclear war with Russia and can compare that to Trump’s time in office when the economy hummed, the U.S. did not start any new wars, and the border was secure.

And despite what the American people think of Trump personally, the polls show that is a winning message as the RealClearPolitics polling average shows Trump leading Joe Biden.
