Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez crossed a line with this crazy claim

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has a knack for saying the craziest things imaginable.

Law enforcement is a frequent target.

But Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez crossed a line with this crazy claim.

Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez is one of the leading supporters of defunding the police.

But in major cities across America, crime is skyrocketing as Mayors are pulling back on policing or proposing budget cuts.

Ocasio-Cortez’s solution to rising crime rates and an increase of criminals is to build fewer prisons.

The New York Congresswoman reasoned that if there were fewer spaces to house criminals there would be fewer crimes.

“It is not acceptable for us to use jails as garbage bins for human beings. We need to treat people and see them as human,” Ocasio-Cortez declared at a press event.

“If we want to reduce the number of people in our jails, the answer is to stop building more of them . . . It’s to support communities, not throw them away,” Ocasio-Cortez added.

In April 2021, shootings were up 166 percent in New York City compared to April 2020.

Grand larceny was up 66 percent.

Felony assault shot up 35 percent.

Ocasio-Cortez claimed this was the result of a mental health crisis, which could not be solved with more prison space.

“Our complete gutting of support in our mental health system both in this city and across the country is absolutely correlated with both homelessness and incidents of violent crime,” Ocasio-Cortez concluded.

Some Democrats are worried about rising crime.

New York Times columnist Ezra Klein recently wrote that the crime wave sweeping America’s greatest cities threatens the entire liberal governance project.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez obviously does not share these concerns.
