A bombshell book revealed a private meeting where Barack Obama let loose on Joe Biden
Joe Biden makes it seem like he and Barack Obama were brothers in arms during their eight years in the White House.
But the reality was anything but.
And a bombshell book revealed a private meeting where Barack Obama let loose on Joe Biden.
In Jonathan Allen and Aime Parnes’ new book Lucky: How Joe Biden Barely Won the Presidency the authors describe a fall 2019 fundraiser in Manhattan where Barack Obama spoke before a group of black CEOs.
At that point in the race the four main contenders were Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Pete Buttigieg, and Joe Biden.
One of the attendees asked Obama, “If Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren, Pete Buttigieg, and Kamala Harris asked for advice, what would you tell them?”
Obama began his answer speaking most forcefully about Elizabeth Warren and trying to sell the executives on her candidacy.
Warren led in the polls at that point and Obama thought she was the likely nominee so he tried to sell her to skeptical corporate chieftains.
Parnes and Allen reported Obama dismissed Buttigieg, writing “‘He’s gay,’ Obama said, ‘and he’s short.’”
Obama barely mentioned Kamala Harris.
As Obama finished, Allen and Parnes wrote that someone mentioned that Obama forgot Biden, which seemed intentional.
Allen and Parnes wrote, “Obama seemed apprehensive, according to a source in the room. ‘His support for Biden was tepid at best,’ the person said. At that point, it didn’t matter what he said about Biden. His silence spoke for him.”
Obama did not endorse Biden until the very end of the primary when Biden knocked out all the other contenders and, even then, reports surfaced that before Biden entered the race Obama did not believe Biden could win.
